Bringing Olivia home - IT HAPPENED!

We did it!! Olivia is finally home. I must admit that I never thought the day would come. I remember the hours upon hours of stalking adoption blogs and thinking how lucky the ones with babies are. Well now, we are lucky ones too. Olivia is adjusting well with Nanny. She gives her lots of smiles and giggles but has yet to show her her screaming middle of the night fits. I guess that's because when Olivia woke up 1am this morning me and mudder got up with her and played. That's right folkes were were playing with all here new exciting toys from 1 - 5 this monring when she finally decided to sleep. Kirk was such a good husbande to me today and let me sleep for about 3 hours this afternoon. I feel like I have been to a spa and back. Who ever thought sleep was a luxury. Nanny had a bouquet a balllons when she met us at the airport and Olivia just loves them. I put a little clip in of her playing with them at about 3 this morning (Auntie Cathy brought more today so now she has even more to play with). She is such a little angel and we are soooooooo in love. It is just really nice to actually have her home. I'm sure her schedule will be off for a little while but hopefully within the next few weeks we'll get it figured out. She didn't take her bottle before bed tonight so I'm expecting her up again before the night is over. She just went down about 30 minutes ago though so maybe she'll sleep right through.

Thank you to everyone who made comments on our blog while in China. Kirk and I enjoyed reading them everynight after Olivia went to sleep. I hope they still keep coming. It's always nice to get that on going support. I will try my best to get some home pictures of her the next couple days and post her in her "Forever family" home.

I want to send out a VERY SPECIAL thank you to Michelle (click here) for coming to the airport and to welcome us home. Olivia and I will be there with bells on when your turn comes.

Welcome home, it must be some good feeling. It's brought a huge smile to my face when you talked about you guys up at 1-5 in the morning playing. I've been there many a times, and even now Logan at 22 months every blue moon decides he would like to have playtime in the wee hours of the morning.
She's a little darling I would give anything to see her in person. Come on next summer I'd say.
Can't wait to see all three of you guys next summer.
It's funny too, the sleep thing, it's precious ain't it. Before you know it she will be sleeping for 13 14 hours straight she might have even done it last night. Logan didn't sleep at all the first year and I never thought he would but he do.
Take care and say hi to nanny for me.

Welcome home! I enjoyed following your blog in China and think that Olivia is very cute. So much more hair than Kelly had at that age! And a nice size (what did she weigh at her medical compared to what you thought she might be?)

Thoughts on beating the jet lag and making the time change:
you have to keep her up late at night so she is really tired and keep her day time naps really short. Wake her up and get her busy with noisy toys or a bath. It seems very cruel but it works. Also, getting outside in the sunlight (I know it is cold) for a bit will help. We travelled in Jan. so outside time didn't happen much but a few minutes of cold and fresh air will do wonders to keep her awake.

If you don't, you will be up in the wee morning hours playing for a while because she thinks that's what she is supposed to do. We did that for a few nights than followed this advice and slowly turned Kelly's clock around. You will feel zombie like for a bit when you aren't sleeping much at night.
And sleep when she does!!!!!!!!!!
Keep it dark at night-reassuring but quiet and not real stimulating so she gets the message that it is time to sleep and not time to play.

These ideas worked for us. Type questions on cbridgechat for ideas (I did) and slowly things will turn. Kelly needed me to stay in her room alot at the beginning-holding her hand through the crib rails but then I could go to sleep in our room and go back and forth.

Welcome back and hope these tips help.
And for people who haven't travelled yet, take note and you will have some ideas for when you return.

Theresa, mom to Kelly who turned 4 last week!
Back to report card typing! Kelly is asleep. DH has a horrible cough and I need to get my work done. This was a quick break in between the next set.
